SD50 GOP News & Events - July 12, 2023
Serving Residents of Edina & Bloomington
A Note from Events Vice Chair, Sarah Knapp

Be visible or we cease to exist.
That was our mantra this July 4th. And visible we were.
A BIG thanks to everyone who participated in the Edina July 4th Parade; not even the rain could dampen our spirits and enthusiasm! (We started with about 60 participants and understandably lost some due to the weather conditions.) I can tell you it was all worth it and I'm pleased to share some of the responses we got from parade goers - I heard many "thank you for representing" and "thanks for marching" along with many cheers and applause in support of the important and highly relevant platforms we highlighted - We Support our Police, Parents for School Choice, Reduce the Cost of Living and Inflation and Make our Streets and Neighborhoods Safe Again. There was only one "boo" (undoubtedly from a DFL staff person).A few other details to share:
- Our line-up included three beautiful convertible automobiles (also providing rides for a few who were unable to march but wanted to participate).
- Marchers representing SD50, and our partners SD46, and Minneapolis BPOU.
- Great opportunity to join together, make new friendships and bring awareness to SD 50 & the Republican Party!
And finally, much thanks and gratitude to SD50 Chair Teri Hovanec for opening up her home for some traditional Edina cake and good conversation following the parade. We look forward to all of you joining us next year to make our message and presence that much stronger!
All my best,
Sarah
P.S. Interesting that our SD50 Representatives Heather Edelson and Dr. Alice Mann DID NOT march in the parade. The DFL sent Tim Walz, Amy Klobuchar, Ilhan Omar, & Dean Phillips. I did not see any photo ops with Walz & SD50 DFL Reps either. This leads me to believe that the feedback Edelson and Mann are receiving from their SD50 Constituents on the most recent legislative session is less than optimal and they are starting to feel the GOP heat! So lets get ready to work hard to get out the VOTE!

Volunteer Fair Update:
Thank you to all whom were able to attend our Volunteer Fair last month. It was great to meet many of you and put faces to names. We have already engaged a few of you the July Fourth Parade. Thank You. A special thanks to volunteer Jill Fike who spent countless hours decorating a stroller to hold candy and beautifully hand made lollipops and tootsie rolls with a hand-written Happy Fourth of July message from SD50 GOP on each. It was amazing! Such a special touch. We got many compliments from the crowd.
If you were unable to make it to the SD50 Volunteer Fair this past week, but would still like to volunteer, here are some current opportunities we are working on. More information about each opportunity is listed on the form when you click the link, and will also be provided after you sign up. Please check the box on the list and someone will reach out to you at the appropriate time. Or feel free to reach out to the SD50 contact e-mail address with additional comments, suggestions or ideas. Thank you! Questions? E-mail [email protected]

“A Tale of Two Countries”.![]()
One day, on July 27th,1953, a very homogeneous country with the same exact culture, people, history, and language was divided into two countries following the Korean war that started three years earlier. The countries took different paths, following different ideologies. Their stories are dramatic in the extreme and offer important and poignant lessons for Americans...and specifically Republicans as we work to educate people about the realities of Capitalism vs Socialism. Jinny Choi will present a comparison of the Koreas between 1953 and now, 70 years later. More importantly, Jinny will offer her “humble and cautious recommendation on how to convert Asians from Democrats to Republicans.”
